Elements of Competency Performance Criteria              
Element: Prepare to assess flooring installation sites
  • Identify from the customer’s enquiry or job instructions the type of the proposed floor coverings and other relevant work requirements
  • Identify hazards relating to the work site, work practices, materials, tools and equipment, and check risk treatments are in place and operating
  • Select and check all required inspection, testing and other tools and equipment are ready to use, and organise to fix any deficiencies according to workplace procedures
  • Determine the subfloor surface requirements of the proposed floor coverings from manufacturer instructions

  • Identify aspects of the internal and external environment that may affect the installation of floor coverings
  • Investigate the potential interactions between the environment and the proposed floor coverings
       
Element: Assess subfloor structures and subfloors
  • Visually inspect the subfloor structure and subfloor to identify the materials used
  • Run and check datum lines and confirm dimensions are accurate
  • Complete tests appropriate to the type of floor covering to be installed according to manufacturer instructions
       
Element: Report findings according to workplace procedures
  • Identify remedies to any faults identified and make recommendations for floor coverings
  • Prepare an assessment report
  • Make copies of the report available to appropriate people

Assessment Tasks

Copy and paste from the following data to produce each assessment task. Write these in plain English and spell out how, when and where the task is to be carried out, under what conditions, and what resources are needed. Include guidelines about how well the candidate has to perform a task for it to be judged satisfactory.
